Black History Month

October

Reclaiming Narratives

The month of celebration originated from the USA back in 1915 – this was 50 years after slavery in the US was dismissed. This then led to Black History Month UK beginning to celebrate in 1987.

Black history month is a time for reflections and positive change. It is the chance to celebrate the achievements and contributions that Black and Mixed Heritage people have made and continue to make to us all across the world.

This years theme ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ is based on sharing stories of Black history and culture. It is the opportunity to share well known and untold stories and celebrate famous figures and their achievements. The theme of this year is aimed to educate our younger generation through story and acknowledgment.
