Although suicide rates have been closely monitored for a number of years, there are many things that have unfortunately been unavoidable which has greatly affected some peoples mental health. The cost of living and Covid-19 are 2 of the most recent examples that have impacted mental health.
Every year on 10th September, UK and Ireland come together to raise awareness around mental health and preventing suicide. In the UK men are 3 times more likely to die to suicide then women and in the Republic of Ireland men are 4 times more likely to die through suicide than women.
The past 10 years have seen the amount of deaths by suicide reduce. However, the number is still a major concern.
The Prevention Day combines the government, individuals and organisation giving them a chance to openly discuss the prevention of suicide. It allows them all as a team to promote any helpful organisations individuals can reach out to in their time of crisis.
